Brief description: The organization and operation of the HIKING TRAILS will be made not only on marked trails but also on trails near Fajãs with great ecological, scenic and cultural value, as well as boat exits provided by a licensed maritime leisure activity company.

 

Pack 1 – ADVENTURE COFFEE TRAIL consists on a hiking trail to Fajã dos Vimes with degrees of difficulty adapted to any age group. This Fajã is known for having the largest production of coffee on the island, due to the weather of this location the small plantations of Arabic coffee don't need any special treatments. It is also known for their beautiful quilts produced in wooden looms. At the end of the trail the participants have the opportunity to experience the harvesting of the coffee, the tasting of “Café da Fajã dos Vimes®“and to visit the Handicraft Facilities.

 

Difficulty: Easy/Medium

 

Distance: Aprox. 5Km

 

Duration: Ranges between 3 to 5h

 

Season of the Activity: Between the months of May and the end of August (during the time of the harvest)

 

Includes: Guides, Liability and Personal Accident Insurances, Transfers, Visits to the coffee plantations, Coffee tasting and an offer of a coffee bag

 

Maximum Pax limit: Up to 10 people (for larger groups please request a quote)

 

Note: The equipment of the participants responsibility should be the following:

 

  • Light and appropriate clothing for walking;
  • Mid or high-top Walking boots for a better support of the ankle;
  • Small backpack to transport personal belongings;
  • Sunscreen;
  • Walking sticks (optional);
  • Bathing suit/shorts and towel (optional).

 

Pack 2 – CALDEIRA EXPERIENCE consists of a hiking trail (PRSJO1), with a stop halfway through, at the waterfall of Caldeira de Cima where Cascading (controlled descent of the waterfall through rappelling) will take place. Continuing the trail to Fajã da Caldeira de Sto. Cristo, the client will have the opportunity to visit the Interpretive Center of Caldeira de Sto. Cristo.

 

Difficulty: Medium

 

Distance: 10Km

 

Duration: Between 4h to 6h, depending on the number of people

 

Season of the Activity: Spring/Summer (subject to changes due to weather conditions)

 

Includes: Guides, Liability and Personal Accident Insurances, Transfers and a Visit to the Interpretive Center of Caldeira de Santo Cristo

 

Maximum Pax limit: Up to 10 people (for larger groups please request a quote)

 

Note: The equipment of the participants responsibility should be the following:

 

  • Bathing suit/shorts and towel;
  • Mountain boots or waterproof boots;
  • A snack;
  • A change of clothes and shoes for after the activity;
  • Sunscreen;
  • A small backpack for personal belongings.

All of the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as helmets, harnesses, ropes, carabiners, eights, slings, maillons, cowstails and other accessories meet the standards required by the EC (European Commission) and the UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation).

Before the activity begins the participants will be provided with the necessary information as well as a small training, followed by the equipment usage rules, essential conditions to ensure safety and a brief description of the training and work experience of the monitors and their collaborators.

 

 

Packs 3, 4 and 5 – Land and Sea: they all involve hiking trails on various parts of the island with boat exits. On any of the activities mentioned above the participants will be provided with the necessary information on best practice, relevant environmental legislation, essential conditions to ensure safety and a brief description of the training and work experience of the monitors and their collaborators.

We want to focus this type of service for small groups in order to reduce the environmental impact and to value the interaction between clients and guides, while also providing a better customized service and enhancing the environmental and cultural interpretation. The trails guarantee our participants the observation of wonderful landscapes where, among other features, we highlight the various Fajãs, waterfalls, the ocean and a whole set of details related to the natural and cultural heritage that the island of São Jorge has to offer. At the same time we will try to involve the clients in genuine experiences with strong local influence, seeking to establish an interaction with the local population and it's culture.

Duration: Ranges between 4h to 6h

 

Season of the Activity: All year (subject to changes due to weather conditions)

 

Includes: Guides, Liability and Personal Accident Insurances, Transfers and a Visit to the Interpretive Center of Caldeira de Sto. Cristo (included only in pack 5).

 

Minimum and Maximum Pax limit: From 3 to 10 people.

 

Note: The equipment of the participants responsibility should be the following:

 

  • Appropriate clothing for walking (light clothing recommended for Spring/Summer and warmer, waterproof clothing for Autumn/Winter);
  • Mid or high-top Walking boots for a better support of the ankle;
  • Small backpack to transport personal belongings;
  • Sunscreen;
  • Walking sticks (optional);
  • Bathing suit/shorts and towel (optional – recommended in the Summer).

 

In any of these Packs each participant is responsible for their snack (for example: sandwich, 1.5L bottle of water, juice, chocolate or dry fruits, fruit...).
